Keep receipts, ledger entries, duplicate checks, and human review connected.

The problem

A ledger entry loses its usefulness when its source document is hard to find or the same expense is posted twice.

The build

  • Capture receipt information and preserve the source-document relationship.
  • Normalize duplicate checks and maintain correction and recurring-expense review paths.
  • Stage possible bank-to-receipt matches for review rather than posting the same item to multiple ledgers.
  1. Receipt
  2. Duplicate check
  3. Linked ledger
  4. Human review

A decision that shaped it

A possible match is a review item, not a posting instruction. Preserve manual decisions and the source behind each number.

Status and next step

The October 5 project records describe live bookkeeping workflows and a separate personal-bank review path. This case study shows only the system flow; no financial records or account details are included.

Next: Use a sanitized walkthrough with fictional records for publication. Keep business and personal posting boundaries explicit.

Project record: October 5, 2026. Status reflects the available evidence.
